new downstairs bathroom

frame and pump   plumbing wall & pump 8/08

The unfinished portion of the basement is going to be a new downstairs bathroom.

First, we cut a hole in the slab floor for a pump to get the gray and black water up to the septic and drain field. That's the hole in the corner - covered temperarily for my safety.

We then put in the main plumbing wall - an interior wall from which to hang the plumbing fixtures. You can see the stubs for the two sinks.

Into the plumbing wall, we add all the pipe, the electrical wiring and a short knee wall. The blue boxes are the electrical switch and termination boxes for the light fixture.

We also got the pump installed into its hole and connected to the main plumbing line.

The framing was largely defined by the location of heat vents, house wiring and plumbing.

Framing the plumbing for example defined the lighting soffit that surrounds the bathroom.

Now its polish the surfaces - paint the walls, marble the floors, get the countertop installed, and add the end cabinet and lighting.

Now in use

and now
All but the suspended ceiling has been completed - a detail to be finished this winter when the weather turns wet.

The walls have been painted a pale tan with white trim.

The floor is travertine marble, the cabinet are cherry with quarts countertop. The two separate sinks are pale gray ovals and the fixtures are brushed nickel.

The shower is also travertine marble and the water closet includes a urinal - a very nice luxury.

The utilities are behind the removable panels.
