To get to the Sunshine Coast of British Columbia, you need to catch the ferry from Horseshoe Bay. This is a suburb of Vancouver on Canadian Highway 1 as it turns north to Whistler.
Canada has some of the nicest ferries, similar to the Scandinavian boats that take trains from Copenhagen to Sweden. |
Once on the coast, there are fishing villages everywhere, like Langdale, BC.
If you are hungry, we recommend Molly's. Good food and lots of it for a Canadian price from really friendly people.
Boating is important here where small protected harbors are scattered up and down the coast. |

The "Sunshine Coast" is an Indian phrase meaning "Uninhabited
Rain Forest". This part of British Columbia is no sunnier than anywhere else in the Northwest, just so named to encourage tourism.
There are many many little harbors where moorage is available. These little communities are between Pender Harbor and Sechelt where the beaches give way to rocky coastline. Often, you will find little stores, a diner and cabins in these inlets.
|
For those who like to hike, you may want to try the two mile walk near Earl's Cove. This is North America's largest rapids and depending upon what time you go (low or high tide), you will see either huge breakers or mammoth tornado-like pools.
After your hike, try lunch or dinner just a couple of miles south at the West Coast Wilderness Lodge. |
